Sure they can, just not the way some want them to be mentioned, as ill-disguised window dressing for state-supported religious indoctrination.

None of which points to a Christian, Jewish, or Islamic God and we all know that precisely that is the intention of those who would put religious instruction in public school classrooms. Such a goal HAS to be regarded as a violation od the Establishment clause of the Constitution and has been so ruled by the USSC. If they wish their children to receive 24/7 religious instruction, their is NO LAW that prevents them from sending their children to religious schools. And arguments of financial inadequacy on the parent's part should not be allowed to gut the Constitution.
