Karen, attaching controversial items to unrelated bills in order to slip them through, when they would either invoke a filibuster or not pass on their own merits, is a time-honored procedure that has been practiced by both parties for many years. And by the way, there is IMO a significant difference when the item thus inserted would actually pass on a straight up-or-down vote and the procedure is done to avoid the filibuster, and when it is some piece of pork that few could justify voting for directly.

We cheer when our political aims are thus achieved and boo when they are blocked.

All of us.
