Solon, ya gotta be wrong. Ya gotta. Can you imagine the history of this continent if the US and Canada thought like that?

One of the arguments of the pro-war folks against the liberals is that the liberals think arabs are somehow beneath democracy. Thus they are accused of a sort of racism. If what your friend says is true, the accusation of racism becomes a dose of reality.
I have read all i can about the election results and the keys to me seem to be the disqualification of 90 sunni candidates for being former baath party members and what amounts to the continued shiaa/kurd alliance of convenience to keep their respective areas under their separate control while minimilizing the sunni. All of these things are conducive to either civil war or an ultimate three state solution or both.
With the three states, the sunni area becomes an oilless, non-viable state and will become the mideasts next palestine while kurdistan becomes the next israel stick in the eye to the arabs, that is if the turks allow it. And the shiaa area has the potential to be a puppet of iran but if not that, certainly within irans sphere of influence. Also in three state shiaa will begin to ask for immediate US withdrawl as well. IRan can replace us there and if we are not prepared to leave another insurgency in the South might ensue.
Like you i am still hoping if not exactly hopeful. I am also hoping that if iraq deteriorates President Bush will at least understand that our presence at some point will become untenable. mike
