{So I assume your saying this didn't happen -

" Telling them that they were sluts because of the fact that they where wearing normal modern bathing suits rather than covering themselves up as the Lebanese men thought they should, and threatening them with rape."

Is that right? }

Yes.

OK. I recognize that its hard to impossible to prove a negative but while you can't prove it can you present or link to an argument showing reason to believe its unlikely, or that the earlier reports that it did happen where false?

I think that Anglo Saxon cultures have a particular penchant for racism

I disagree, but I would go along with the idea that they more often had the power to express their racism in violent ways against other races.

The Australians are hardly the first people to riot or violently protest in response to rapes,

They were not rioting because of the rapes. The rapes happened three years ago.

They are part of the background to the riots, just as the economic situation is. Of course neither provides a justification for the rioting.

"I don't think you have any solid basis for your "it would never happen in a million years" comment."

You are saying that you think the Lebanese would riot if two Australians assault two Lebanese lifeguards with the way race relations are in present day AU?

No I'm not saying I think they would, but I certainly think it is possible that they would. "Never in a million years" is a pretty strong statement. I can rationally disagree with that statement without thinking that there is an extremely strong chance that it would happen. I wouldn't specifically expect it, but it wouldn't shock me if it did happen, if Lebanon had gone through the same sort of period of worsening race relations with Australian immigrants. (Of course in reality there have been very few Australians going to Lebanon, so the background situation is hardly the same.)

The gov't was the vehicle for the increased immigration but why do you think it was encouraged when Australia has had a history of rejecting non Anglo Saxon cultures? Its the same reason why immigration is encouraged in this country and why there is not significant pressure to curtail illegal immigration. Cheap labor is at the bottom of it.

I don't see how that makes the Lebanese the victims of the government, esp. I don't see how that makes them the victims of the government's immigration policy. They wanted to immigrate, the government was giving them what they want. When someone gives you what you want you usually don't go back later and accuse them of victimizing you by doing so.
