I'll defer to your opinion as you actually live in SoFLa and I just visit but I'd live there in a heartbeat if I could justify the cost of living.

I would not live in Florida even if it was cheaper than here.
Hurricanes
Horrible heat from March thru September
Miserable humidity
No mountains just flat as a pancake land
No change of season
No trees except mangrove swamps and stuff that grown in swamps. OK maybe a few pines tolerant of salt
No good fresh water supplies
Crowds of tourists disrupting the few good months

IMO Florida totally sucks for year round living although Sanibel and some of the Manatee springs are nice in the winter.

I will take the Winters in Wisconsin over that anytime.
If the Pacific Northwest had less rain, that would be close to the ideal climate for me. There may be some places in the rain shadow that would be perfect.

Here is what I want:
Temperature range 20-80
temperatures most of the time 60-75
a change of seasons with hardwood trees that turn colors
mountains, oceans, tidepools nearby
skiing in Dec-January
rivers for fishing and kayaking in the summer
ample rain but far more sunny days than cloudy days.

Got a place like that?

Mish

I think the main differences now are life altering hurricanes, the ocean and very high cost of living so two out of three favor Dallas these days<g>
