I prefer a CEO that does not obsess with the current stock price.

More important is where is the company going long term. If good things happen then, the stock price will follow.

"I really have to wonder how prevalent this CEO indifference to the stock price is among the resource companies as a whole."

It makes you wonder how many execs of junior miners were sleeping with the enemy all along. Especially most noteworthy are those that were listed on AMEX after the first pump in gold prices in 2003..

There are a number of ways to interpret that reaction. For one they cannot do much about it. (It isn't they who make the price, it's the market.) The reality however is their vested interest in a good price is manifest. They need it to raise money. Of course, again, often in weak markets a high price does you no good, as investors don't want to pay high prices unless the market is flying too, so it's a double edged sword. Then letting the stock drift down is cheaper for your stock support people and might attract bottom feeders.

For the execs to moan just makes thing more depressing so they want to keep up a brave front and keep you wondering if the value is still not there somehow.
