Carl, I hope you know that unclewest's list is incredible nonsense?

May I remind you that Democrat Woodrow Wilson got us into WWI;

This one I'll give him. There was no real necessity for us to get into WWI. But it is surely matched by McKinley getting us into the 1898 War and its absurd aftermath, the Philippine War. Not to mention the Roosevelt Corollary to the Monroe Doctrine, which got us so involved in Central & South American adventures throughout the 20th century.

Democrat Roosevelt got us into WWII;

This one is completely absurd. Japan attacked us and Germany declared war first.

Democrat Truman finished WWII and Democrat Truman got us into Korea;

"got us into Korea", lol. Coming from a Cold Warrior, this language is ridiculous. Many Cold Warriors like Uncle don't castigate Truman for Korea, only for not "nuking" China.

Democrat Kennedy got us into Vietnam;

lol, it was the Dulles Brothers and Eisenhauer who "got us into Vietnam," not Kennedy. And it was Republicans and Cold Warrior Democrats who claimed it was oh so important that we "win" that absurd engagement.

Democrat LBJ turned Vietnam into a quagmire and then quit in the middle of it.

Good grief, Vietnam was ALWAYS a quagmire. The only way it wouldn't have been is if we would have dropped nuclear bombs on North Vietnam.

Democrat LBJ is the only Commander in Chief to voluntarily abandon his position and leave 500,000 US troops on a battlefield he sent them to

As if LBJ wouldn't have been voted out if he had run again. As if there was any way to actually win that war short of the Roman method ("They turned it into a desert and called it peace"). Their narrative of why we "lost" Vietnam is ridiculous. It is because they don't know any history and they believe far far too much in American Exceptionalism. I am coming to believe more and more that this belief is itself the greatest danger to this country.

Have you read Andrew Bacevich's book, The New American Militarism? I'm reading it now. Interesting book. Gives a pretty good picture of Uncle, Hawk and their "ilk" (to use their term for their political opponents) and puts them into perspective. Though it still isn't the whole story.
