Peter,

You may have a point. It would be neat if somebody made something that is like an iPod for the non-portable world, which doesn't suffer from limitations imposed by portability requirement. A small display with simple interface as part of the "box" would make it into a product (as opposed to white box)

Yes it is a great product opportunity, and Apple is on this path. I don't believe there will be much of an opportunity left once they start to roll out their efforts in this area. Unless you want to design something clumsy that crashes and really doesn't work well. But of course Microsoft, Dell, HP and others will corner that market in a hurry.
