It's finding that so many otherwise intelligent American citizens either don't know or don't care about the standards laid down by the Founding Fathers that mean that they don't have to get screwed by authority whenever someone in office deems it necessary.

What the American people don't know and can't do is a scandal, but it's a different scandal.

If the warrant wasn't specified I would not have answered yes to what I think it an obviously deceptive question

If that's really so, you're way less moderate than I thought. Here's the question:

>>Should the National Security Agency be allowed to intercept telephone conversations between terrorism suspects in other countries and people living in the United States?<<

You get to choose yes or no. Are you really going to say "no" to that? You'd effectively be saying that they shouldn't, even with a warrant.

Joe Schmo may not have the details on his own, but if you give him all the information instead of trying to gerrymander the result,

It doesn't work that way. In trying to provide enough detail, you end up "gerrymandering" the result even worse and you end up with garbage. You just can't provide enough information and do it in an objective way. The more you throw in, the more bias you get. At least with this question you know the answer to something. It's pretty clear that people don't want to keep security folks from snooping on "US persons" who are somehow connected to the bad guys.

That makes me mad. We shouldn't have let ourselves fall that far.

I'll ask you the same question I asked MrLucky earlier, more or less. Do you really think it makes sense to deprive ourselves of reasonable protection just because the partisans on the other side are in favor of it for the wrong reasons?
