Sharon might have been dreaming about egyptian takeover of gaza which is what geopolitically should happen, but it became messier there than he imagined and the future of egypt itself is cloudy. I too hope bibi stays firm but in the end dismantle what cannot be defended on the WB while incorporating the contiguous settlements into Israel. Its all about realities on the ground my friend. The pals had far more land in 1967 and far far far more in 1947. This rejectionist bull shit gets them nothing in the end. The Jews this time around didnt go quietly in the night against overwhelming force. No they built overwhelming force of their own to defend themselves.

You are correct. Each country must determine its own best interest. The US state department is an untamable beast. Career diplomats seem to be of the most liberal stripe.

Israel must determine what is most important for Israel. Often its interests and America's interests have much commonality. But not always.
