Peter, I have a worse story than that but in contains a very vile word. We moved our factory to a town of about 10K people in 1954, because of the room to expand, and employment needs of the community. My Dad hired any able bodied person that wanted work, regardless of race, creed, etc, and paid the equally for equal work. In 1957, while I was working part time as office manager and commuting 39 miles to college with classes in the morning only, a group of business men from the town came to visit, and accosted my Dad with the complaint that we were upsetting the wage structure of the town, by paying our ni---rs too much. I have never seen my Dad as mad as he was that day. He told those men to get the hell out of his office before he physically threw them out. That shut them up for good. My Dad was not a big man, but was mad enough to chew nails, and spit out tacks.

My wife says she can get me a link of that photo for you.
