If you follow the logic to its full circular conclusion, all bad things in the world that could be prevented should be prevented, but that won't happen. So we make choices and weigh priorities and rely on a system that keeps any given group of officials from subverting the practices and norms of a 200-year-old nation. As long as a majority stands up and insists on applying the Constitution that the officials swore to uphold, we should be OK as a nation. God help us the day they don't.
