Gold is a wonderful metal, but it's inconvenient for use as money compared to other ways of transferring wealth. It must have been terrifying to be in possession of much gold in the past and know that there were a lot of people in the world who would kill you to get it.

How many bars of gold are stored all over the world as foreign reserves or private safety nets. Several times what is used in jewelry.

And most of those buying gold jewelry in Asia are buying it as a store of wealth.
