Mindmeld, getting back to a prior discussion, cisco's last CC reported not-so-good sales in one country, so I asked my channel if they felt Cisco's report is a leading indicator our market might get weak. They said, no, it's a cisco specific issue. I didn't believe their assessment at the time (because we had a 4 week weakness around the same time too), but turns out they were probably right because once we fixed our issue (we came out with a nw indep soln), our sales came back in that region. There was also a blurb on the newswire that one of cisco's competitors made an advance, so cisco's surprising stall reported during the last CC was probably related to a competitive issue, is my guess. I would guess that Cisco's future new products and sales channel work will fix any competitive issue they may have had. On a different note, there was a blurb on some projected growth slowdown in telcos forbes.com Growth in the telecom equipment maker's core market, dominated by Juniper and Cisco Systems, is likely to slow to the 20% range in 2006 and 2007, according to Prudential analyst Inder Singh. For comparison, the market grew more than 40% in 2004 and more than 30% in 2005, the analyst said. "While we believe carriers will continue to add capacity to the network core, we believe spending will also shift to the network edge, where other competitors stand well-positioned to grow market share," Singh said in a client note. WS shouldn't find out about huge sales deals like this rumored $15B GM deal before it gets released on the wire - someone has loose loops in the investment banking world, is my guess. Did GM try to get funding for this purchase, only to find out one of WS bankers GM probably approached decided to take advantage of this inside info and trade on Cisco? This smacks of loose lips within the WS IB world.
