For arguments sake i will believe the iranians to be somewhat rational. So what can they do with the few bombs they get by next year? Well a rational iran certainly wont be sacrificing tehran for tel aviv so i figure israel/iran relationship will be similar to US/Soviet under stalin, krush in cuba, and breznev. Hopefully they can install a hot line or at least and email link to prevent the unthinkable. But the more important reason for iran to acquire nukes is to be able to blackmail the gulf states to adhere to their policies. Here they come up against the US as ultimate guarntor of the these nations rights and independence. Perhaps iran feels as bin laden does that US is a paper tiger and they can get away with either the local nuke blackmail or assymetric terror attacks on the west either done by their agents or more likely thru the use of al quaeda or other surrogates???? Thus our fear about what saddam would do with wmds now comes alive with iran? But we have been weakened by what is widely perceived as an unsuccessful policy in iraq and by a more well regarded opponent. What to do is not simple matter. We are where we were in the early days of the Cold War when stalin was about to achieve nuclear status. We didnt go to war with the soviets. Iran is not russia nor is it iraq. Air power on its own might do more harm than good if done by itself. To be successful i think there probably must be regime change in iran that gives the anti-clerics hope even though some of the anti-clerics will be just as pissed off as the clerics that we took out their nukes.
