Yes, the US has the dubious distinction of being the only country to have ever used the nuclear option, and used it twice. And this was done when the US was winning the war. That is the problem, and as I see it, any nation possessing these weapons will use them if under attack. Israel, as you pointed out is a very small country with a very small population. Israel is acutely aware that it cannot afford to fight a war on its own territory, and certainly can't take a nuclear "first" hit and survive. I am sure that is a great fear amongst ordinary Israelis. There is no doubt at all in my mind that Israel will do everything in her power to try to preserve her nuclear superiority over her perceived enemies for as long as it can.

But for now, the rhetoric is heating up. "Israelis plan pre-emptive strike on Iran" is the headline in The Herald. Nothing new about that, but some new dates and March is again mentioned.
