I remember hauling ice for the ice box in our little red wagon, down from the ice house where it was stored under sawdust. We hosed it off and put it in the ice box. At first the ice was cut in winter from a pond near where Traveller's Rest State Park is now. Before they switched to electric refrigerators, they modernized by buying ice at the ice plant.

The ranger station where I spent weeks every summer with my friend, whose dad was ranger, still uses electric power generated on site.
