<<According to Shiites, the 12th imam disappeared as a child in the year 941. When he returns, they believe, he will reign on earth for seven years, before bringing about a final judgment and the end of the world.>>

Now you have me worried. I was going to have BBQ pork tonight, it's cooking so I'll eat it.

"Riazaty, in a post on the website Regime Change Iran, said the Iranian president emphasized his current theme that the return of the Shiite messiah, the Mahdi, is not far away, and Muslims must prepare for it. "

As part of his insurgency Moktada Al Sadr announced the formation of the AL-Mahdi Army. The 'Army of Mahdi' can never be disbanded according to Al Sadr who has an allegiance with Sistani the powerful Mullah from Iran.

This belief is held by Sunis also btw but whether or not they will eventually support this armed force is hard to say.

There have also been declarations of the Al Mahdi army in history but they were later declared false. Watch the movie 'Four Feathers'. Its about the Mahdi Army in Africa.
