I heard consumption was up only 1% vs normal 2 1/2 - 3.

New cars sales have leaned towards the efficient and many trocks now incorporate a new technology like Chrysler Displacement on Demand and GM's active fuel management.

The systems shut off electrical injectors and turn V-8 intop V-4 when power is not needed.

New Tahoe is rated at16/22 mpg city highway.

Most V-6 SUV's are around 16/19.

Nothing big ,rather a lot of small changes that will freeze consumption. IMO

Couple that with huge new exploration budgets and known rich deposits of fossil fuels - we'll work throught his but at a new higher threshold in price.

I think oil is rising due to Iran restarting their nuclear programs. Climbing the wall of worry, imo. Oil prices are at least 33% overinflated vs. supply/demand metrics. The fear of further disruptions has kept the burner (on high) under crude prices. There is simply no real reason for the price of oil to be over $50/bbl and it really should be closer to $35 or $40, even with the Katrina/Rita shortages.

The constant fear factor...

Curious if anyone here has price targets for AMAT and the group for the next 2 years. Bullish or Bearish.....let's post em.

If semi sales can make it near $300B in the next few years, I could see AMAT approach $50.
