Almost all of this debate is now a ping-pong match between different sets of assumptions. The long and sometimes tedious process has clearly elucidated these two views, which pretty much reflect how society as a whole is split over the issues of domestic surveillance and the threat we face. People can keep playing pattycake if they like and exchanging barbs, but I don't see any of it getting anywhere now.
