To: Win Smith who wrote (179825 ) 1/14/2006 2:04:31 PM From: Hawkmoon Respond to of 281500 I don't care who they are Win.. If they mis-stated how they received their medals, let alone sought to obtain them for wounds that were not derived from combat action with the enemy, then they have dishonored all the servicemen who DID win their medals the hard way. They also dishonor all the servicemen who DIDN'T receive awards, but deserved them. Murtha has opened up his military record to scrutiny by politicizing his combat experience. It's only fair that he should release his military records so that the public can be assured that the awards he claims were properly deserved. I recall a guy by the name of David Christian, who was (is?) a Senatorial advisor and FOX news pundit during the lead up to the war. He claimed 7 purple hearts and that he was one of the most decorated veterans of the Vietnam war. Hell, even Wikipedia apparently has a blurb dedicated to him.en.wikipedia.org Apparently he even ran for Congress several times. The only problem was that I could not find any information verifying his record. He made some very outlandish claims in his "autobiography" which he called, "Victor Six", such as the drinking the blood of a Vietnamese foe he and his men has killed. As I recall, I the research I did uncover asserted taht he was grievously wounded in a fuel mishap that left him massively burned and 100% disabled. But that's a far cry from having received 7 purple hearts as a result of combat action. I see the link also claims he was nominated for the CMO twice. I wonder if there's a way in which to research all nominees for the CMO. There's some other history about Mr. Christian and a certain bogus land mine detection technology that he was touting on behalf of one of the biggest stock frauds I've ever witnessed ($6 Billion market cap turned into $0).. But that's been years ago and I'd have to dig up the research... Suffice it say, I really don't like it when people falsely assert they have been more valorous than they really were. There are just too many service members who DESERVE such medals, but never are recognized. Hawk
