"Therefore why should Iran accede to the demands of the West? Iran saw what happened to Iraq and knows it is damned if it does and damned if it doesn't. If you were in Ahmadinejad's shoes, would you give up your nuclear ambition?"

I don't know. Is a reluctant virgin better off giving in to seduction or getting forcibly raped? At least the seducer promises "you will enjoy it".

I wouldn't be so sure as to what China and Russia might do when that that eventuality occurs. Are their interest in Iran greater than their broader world wide ones? Would they sacrifice their hard earned status and well being with the West for Iran? Would they risk a war over it which can turn ugly and even nuclear very quickly? Do they trust the U.S. not go use nuclear weapons if things don't go their way?

Their complete passivity during the Balkan, Afghanistan and Iraq wars should surely make one doubt their commitment to Iran, should it not? Conversely it undoubtedly emboldens the US and demonstrates their status as the only "Super Power", able to impose its will through military supremacy.

What a mess! Stay tuned.
