A hell of a choice, isn't it? I agree China has the edge and will maintain their cultural identity long after Russia has faded from the scene -- "ages come and ages go, but China remains" -- a paraphrase from a Chinese saying.

Personally I feel that both islam and Russia are very real individual threats to human survival -- one due to it's unparalleled political corruption -- the other due to it's unmatched hatred and profound ignorance. Be that as it may, it seems these two malignant geopolitical forces are slowly and inextricably forming an alliance.

An interesting thought; but then we do live in interesting times -- let's hope we live through them.

You are probably mistaken.

Please note that China which has had a culture that precedes scientific culture by over two thousand years has never been known to be a predator nation in history and I believe it is unlikely to be so in the future. In the past, despite its military might, it was concerned with keeping its own territories and culture intact and, its differences with its neighbours were relatively minor ones and quickly settled! Remember the Great Wall of China and why it was built?

If China wields any significant power in the foreseeable future, that power will most likely stem from economic power, a circumstance that ensues naturally and inexorably from market forces and economics. NOT by devious and nefarious machinations and force of military might! But, of course, to economic power other forms of power will accrue and all that that implies.

I believe the concern or fear that some western powers manifest regarding China arming herself stems from GUILT arising from their having taken undue advantage of that country, abused her citizens, and imposed unfair treaties and crushing indemnities on that country during the period 1840 - 1911 when China did not possess "modern" military weapons. Did you know that Britain had tried unscrupulously to enslave the Chinese population to opium (morphine) so that China could be manipulated and exploited big-time? Of course, the media won't tell you all that shameful history. Instead, it is doing its damndest to indoctrinate you that China is a menacing dragon in the making and no effort must be spared to contain and emasculate it. If I am not mistaken, those guilt-ridden exploiters and abusers are very concerned about possible Chinese "retaliation" in the future. For all I know, China might turn out to be magnanimous!

(By the way, did you know that during WWII when most European countries, including the former super worldpower Britain, would not accept Jews except the super-rich ones like the Rothschilds, China welcomed a good number of them to safety in Shanghai? And in the distant past, China welcomed and allowed Jews to have their enclave at Kaifeng? (do a google on this and learn more!) Isn't it an irony that today US-dumbdowned sabras should be believing negative propaganda about China?)
