MYTH #1
Smoking marijuana does not lead to heavier drug use.
This would be a personal harm issue.... Just as much as Alcohol leads to being a drunk.

MYTH #2
Marijuana is safer and healthier than tobacco or alcohol.
This would be personal harm....defending one health-damaging habit by pointing to another is (pardon the pun) smoke and mirrors..... Well, it is no worse for your health

MYTH #3
Smoking marijuana has positive health benefits.
You just know putting smoke in your lungs is good for you. Nothing here about dealing with crime....mostly just dealing with idiots......It is used to treat severe pain in certain patients.

MYTH #4
Marijuana is not addictive
Offer a baby candy and then get a govt councellor to "educate" the child about "proper candy use"..... Anything can be addictive. Kinda like Religion?

MYTH #5
Marijuana does not affect driving abilities
Of course pot sold in gov't outlets would be of a regulated strength so we need not worry about drivers being impaired...after all, alcohol content is regulated and we can easily see the benefit of these regulations..... Yup, should not operate machinery.

MYTH #6
Marijuana does not seriously and permanently affect the behaviour of young people.
Oh, well....society will always have need for labourers....
Stupid comment!

MYTH #7
Young people are going to use marijuana regardless of whether it is illegal or not.
Especially so if their parents are telling them how wonderful it is...and a real bonus if they offer the kids a toke.....
People have been smoking pot since the 60's. Just look at the crazed pot smokers in this Country. There every where!

MYTH #8
Parents cannot do anything to prevent their children from using marijuana.
As you mentioned earlier....much better to tell kids about the wonderful benefits of drug use.... Yup, just ignore it! Kinda like condoms/pill. Ahh the beauty of Religion

Does anyone here know of a web site that helps put various threats in perspective? Media outlets are useless for perspective because they simply provide entertainment to the public and assume no obligation to inform.

I can't help but think that the priorities under discussion are all skewed. There are a lot of big issues, but few people bother trying to put them in perspective.

If we want policies to save lives, we could start by putting criminal negligence penalties on health care workers that don't wash their hands. That would save far more lives than completely eliminating all violent crime, including gang violence.

Our TV is full of programs promoting superstition and anti-empiricism, our media exists only to stoke irrational plebian fears, and our politicians refuse to lead, but instead flutter whichever way the populist wind blows. Is there no hope?
