I'm sorry some have developed the idea I dislike New Zealand.

I like New Zealand, but it is a startling contrast to Australia. Australia has an expansive and optimistic character.

By contrast, New Zealand always seems rather dour with an economy which feels to me like an eternal recession, regardless of the actual current state of business opportunities.

Wellington, the nation's capital seems to be the sole exception, filled with bright ambitious people excited about their lives and surrounded by the art community. This leads me to assume that government is the primary avenue of opportunity for ambitious and talented people who wish to remain in New Zealand. If my perception is true I think its an unfortunate state of affairs. The people of New Zealand deserve better.

I think if anyone compared similar sized towns in New Zealand and Australia the difference in character would be immediately obvious, even if they described that difference from a different perspective.

Maurice, That's no bad thing. I'm happy if nearly everyone doesn't want to come here. I like not too many people. The traffic is already bad enough for my liking. Which could be fixed with road construction.

Yes, I understand. I thought the same about Florida 10 years ago. Now it seems everybody is here and much of the reasons for moving here are fast disappearing. Which is why I am considering other places.
BTW. Elroy does like NZ just prefers Aussie, didn't mean to speak for him. I thought I'd read somewhere that he had written otherwise.
Of course the grass always looks greener etc., and I suppose it all comes down to what an individual needs and values. No place is going to be right for everyone, which is a good thing, as you say.

I do NOT like ElM's crazy idea of opening the border and making the place looking like a combination of Bangladesh and Iraq with numbers boosted with hordes of Colombian drug runners.

Certainly, Aussie and NZ have learned from the mistakes of GB as far as immigration goes. Now even for Brits over 50 it is hard to get into either one unless you have loads of loot. In the old days they would pay your fare from the old country they were so happy to have you.
TJ is right about that much, lots of loot increases your options and hence freedom.
