"If my perception is true I think its an unfortunate state of affairs."

It is not. Auckland is definitely the city to live in in NZ.

Your other comments are fair. Aussies are more open and more friendly than NZers, despite local beliefs. This country has a lot of good features, but, overall, the culture isn't one of them. I like Sydney, but my daughter tells me Melbourne is better.

Your post matches what I have seen. I like this bit especially <Wellington, the nation's capital seems to be the sole exception, filled with bright ambitious people excited about their lives and surrounded by the art community. This leads me to assume that government is the primary avenue of opportunity for ambitious and talented people who wish to remain in New Zealand. If my perception is true I think its an unfortunate state of affairs. The people of New Zealand deserve better. >

No, we don't deserve better. We have voted for what we are getting and we are getting heaps of it.

Wellington is a city of spivs and bludgers. Such people love governments and sinecures.
