I know what you mean. Lewis and Clark are OUR heroes, and people in other countries don't know much about them. My sister told of a British couple to whom she was explaining that she lived right on the L&C trail (Missoula, Montana). "Who is Lewis and Clark?" was the answer. Of course, Lewis and Clark sort of did the British out of Oregon and Washington, so you can understand why they are not British heroes the way Alexander McKenzie was, even though his explorations didn't have major consequences.
