hello brian_h, what is wrong with being essentially a foreign country, but one that is growing less foreign by the tick of the tock, especially for the island province that will revert to the mean, folded in, and liberated.

did you know that many washington political types feel that california is a foreign country?

you are reaching for unrealistic fulfillment where there is none. the end is in fact nigh. the inevitable is exactly that. what must be will most certainly be. resistance is futile. give up all unrealistic expectations.

the process will be a lot of fun to watch, as the greater good achieved by the majority, democratic like, 1.3 billion count, all motivated back towards the mean, and will more than likely overshoot.

what? you do not like optimism? too bad. makes it all the more fun - you simply cannot comprehend how much fun it all is.

chugs, j

Hello Brian,
HK is the stepping stone for capital venturing into China, from Singapore, Taiwan, New York etc. The Chinese economy needs it; the CCP therefore needs it. Of course the freedoms of HK could be erased in a few minutes but it is unlikely to happen. How unlikely? Not as unlikely as that you and I will suddenly grow wings enabling us to fly anywhere, but unlikely enough that even those who hate the CPP are not afraid to venture into HK. Torture of course distorts one's viewpoint. I wouldn't even want to fly over HK. But that doesn't mean HK and its freedoms will vanish.
As for Taiwan, why not admit that Taiwan is a province of China but emphasize that it is self-governing for a protracted transition period of mainland China?
Regards,
Seeker of Truth

Brianh, TJ wants to have it both ways. Hong Kong is actually free and independent, but on the other hand, it is only figuratively free and independent, in the same way that California is a foreign country viewed from Washington.
