John, I think you are wrong. Though housing in Danville, IL might not fall in nominal dollars it will fall severely in inflation adjusted dollars.

I am interested in buying a house in Nova Scotia and based on what I saw last year, you can likely buy an existing house for 1/3 of the price of building if not less. A depressed area without jobs depresses housing prices quite a lot!
