I am back from Iran after spending 8 months there. Iranians have a delirium of grandeur. they look to their glorious past and they long to be Persia.

If you add delirium of grandeur plus Islam, you get a pretty explosive mix. I think the Iranians see themselves as more clever than reality warrant.

Why their boldness:

Europe-US divide

Unpopularity of Iraq War

Oil inflated

Worldwide Anti-US sentiment

If it would be easy to clip their wings, it would have been done already. If it must go to the bitter end it can be costly. Both in terms of money and deaths.

If I would be the Iranians, and outsiders attacked me, I would invade and take Iraq's southern oild fields, feed a Shiite Revolt in Shiite community in Iraq. Bomb Green Zone in Baghdad.

There would be sheer killing and the Europeans don't have the stomach to send troops to defend Iraq form the Iranians.

Iraqis would side with Iranian or Us invader? Good question, isn;t it?
