I have to disagree on the GOP fearing Gore - they know he can't even carry his home state against a determined political assault, and what he's doing now doesn't resonate beyond the devoted blue-state crowd.

America doesn't like a loser. When was the last time a losing national candidate (the actual party nominee) came back and won a presidential election in the future? Nixon is the only one I can think of. He made himself the go-to guy for a group that feared what was going on around them. I don't sense that same mood outside of Democratic activist circles today.

Fresh faces win presidential elections 99% of the time when incumbents aren't running.
