So the question then is what do they mean by the consumer market? If what they mean is beefing up its ability to provide network gear to service providers who then sell consumer products and services, then I'd say they will do well. I personally think Scientific Atlanta was a brilliant move.

However, if they intend to compete against Apple, Nokia, Motorola, Palm, etc in the consumer gadget markets, then I'd say that is not going to work very well, as that is very far out of Cisco's core competency. And I've been watching and studying Cisco since 1995, so I have a pretty good feel for this company.
