Commerce Resources thinks they are in the rare earth business.

The thing about rare earths is that they are not particularly rare. Most are used as catalysts. The cell phone industry uses a lot of tantalum, but it gets it mostly from Australia in large quantities. The stranglehold they have on the market may fade in a few years it is rumoured. Generally by hopeful competitors.

The trouble with the industry is that it is dominated by China. When that happens it is generally hard to crack the market, as prices are about rock bottom usually. Or as the case of tantalum where there is an absolute monopoly of one supplier, as high as the market will bear for all long term contracts.

Demand for rare earths has just about tripled since the 1980's but the big boys have tended to expand naturally to fill the gap. It is entirely a producer market. In some cases those markets are dominated by users, who also have a handle on production.

I know someone who cannot even get seed investment for a rare earth company. hmmmmmmm.......

You sure this whole thing is a good idea?
