There is something very irritating about Keating Five McCain being the poster boy for lobby reform.

Just consider how these events would play out in today's environment.

McCain intervened on behalf of Charles Keating after Keating gave McCain at least $112,00 in contributions. In the mid-1980s, McCain made at least 9 trips on Keating's airplanes, and 3 of those were to Keating's luxurious retreat in the Bahamas. McCain's wife and father-in-law also were the largest investors (at $350,000) in a Keating shopping center; the Phoenix New Times called it a "sweetheart deal."

If Republicans ever want to get serious about lobby reform, they should go back to the "Contract with America" and pass TERM LIMITS. Without term limits, everything is just smoke and mirrors.

who, like many House Democrats, has grown acerbic as the party enters its 12th year in the minority.

Were the Republicans as acerbic after not being in the majority for FORTY YEARS?

Or are Democrats the party of "silver spoon in mouth," and they 'want what they want when they want it....right now is not quick enough! ???!!!

I'd have more respect for McCain if he stood up and admitted his first round of "reforms" was a total failure.
