Tim. you are rationalizing.

"Use of deadly force" is often granted to police forces when the person or persons in question are believed to be an immediate danger to people around them. For example, an armed man in a shopping mall shooting at random without regard to the safety of the people around him, and refusing or being unwilling to negotiate, would likely warrant usage of deadly force, as a means to prevent further danger to the community. In the United States this is governed by Tennessee v. Garner, which said that "deadly force...may not be used unless necessary to prevent the escape and the officer has probable cause to believe that the suspect poses a significant threat of death or serious physical injury to the officer or others."

To say that you might face deadly force for holding a policeman hostage when he tries to arrest you and to pretend that this is equivalent to the assertion that deadly force is a prescribed or legal deterrent to all other offenses is to screw with the language and to intentionally misrepresent the meaning of deadly force. Yes, there are instances where deadly force may legally be used. Income tax evasion is NOT one of those instances.

Yes, yes, Tim (and Lazarus)--I know: "But what if I shoot ten cops when they try to fine me or give me a suspended sentence? What if I take the sheriff hostage? What about that, Solon? That would be deadly force for not paying your taxes, Solon? Admit it, Solon? That would be deadly force...RIGHT?"

Both of you know better. End of discussion.
