Not exactly, Goog as was Netscape as was Autodesk as was a hundred companies was a playground in the fat years.

Goog makes 1.5 bill a year. MS makes an easy 12 Billion, maybe 20 Billion cashflow.

MS has been doing this for 30 years. Goog has be doing this for a year and a half.

Right now engineers want to flock to goog to get rich.

Check with us in a year or two if someone else gets the same search log or MS gets everyone to XML and check with back with us also, if the stock ever stays flat for a while.

Right now, you are guilty of extrapolating from too small a data set, as we say in the database business. :))

Guy stands there.

"I wonder where the sun went?"

Finally it dawned on him.

AOL was lucky they found a subsequent sucker.

Geek heaven is very good for getting ideas to develop new products or for creating hype. But it's not good if you want to solve a specific customer's problem.

Microsoft is an OS/Office company with some related small stuff on board. There's nothing less interesting than the two Microsoft cash cows, and Microsoft is not in the position to be the inventor of new $100 million products.

If you want to invest money into development of new products, it only makes sense to invest that money into Microsoft, if the new product is developed better there than anywhere else. Since Microsoft is withdrawing from all other platforms than Windows (cancelling MSIE/Mac, not doing anything on Linux, etc.), only Windows-only products would make sense to be developed inside Microsoft. Developing outside Microsoft means more freedom, more platforms, more customers.

Does goog give out stock options or does it give out stock units? If it is the latter, it is same as Microsoft or Intel which gives out stocks not options. If the geeks are so inclined, they can sell the stock and buy options. In fact, they can use this to time the market also...
