Hi, Karen. Good to see you. As for Clinton consulting with Hatch, you can read all the books to see. Clinton's autobio would be a good place to start but it's most likely in Stephanopolous (sp) book as well. And others.

He consulted with Hatch because Hatch was the the leading Rep on the Judiciary committee, had a record of being willing to work with Dems (he sponsored legislation with Ted Kennedy), and was reasonably well trusted by the other Reps on the committee. As I recall, Hatch shot down several proposed SC nominations--the former governor of Arizona (name escapes me) was the most prominent.

As for whether Bush consulted, we know he did not consult with Dem members of the Judiciary Committee on Alito. I suspect the same was true on Roberts.
