"However, if Hamas is successful at unifying the Palestinian factions into one army, then that is an enormous step forward towards a workable government."

Exactly. Excellent post.

Of course, there's still one little problem. Hamas needs to forget about the idea of wiping Israel off the map. Until they change their ideology, peace will never be possible.

What if Hamas proposes that the land of present day Israel and the occuppied territories be one country with equal rights for all, both Israelis and Palestinians, with representative democracy (as GB proposes) and a secular non-religious government? Same system as we have in the US. What then? Will peace be possible then?

Hi all, read this article:

Hamas leader: 'Palestinian army' possible
cnn.com;

Hopefully, Israelis will adopt Shimon Peres's approach but I have to tell you that Netanyahu is in the background rearing his ugly head. Some are saying he will win in March now that Hamas has won the Palestinian elections.
