This in itself, is sad. You are basically saying that a violation of one of the most important laws of the country is okay if the president can come up with a good reason for it AFTER HE IS CAUGHT. You seem to accept the I'm-tryin-to-catch-the-terrorists line that he is selling as plausible despite his NOT PROVIDING A SINGLE PIECE OF EVIDENCE that this is necessary or helpful. So you are okay with saying that he can argue that this is for the good of the country, but the reasons are still "top secret" and he can't divulge them. So let's recap the premise, so far: It's okay for the president to spy on AMERICAN CITIZENS as long as he says that it is for reasons of security, and he doesn't have to show us any evidence that it is necessary. So that's Bush's side of the fair and balanced debate so far, correct? AND, for the opposing side of the argument, the following media restrictions are in place: 1. Bush's impeachment is not part of the debate. 2. We are required to give Bush the benefit of the doubt that he was actually spying on Al Qaeda operatives. 3. We cannot ask if he was just spying on peace activists, Quakers, Arabs, Democrats, moderate Republicans, NRA members, pro-life or pro-choice activists or whomever else he might want to spy on for reasons other than national security. 4. If we complain about these ground rules then we are radical "Michael Moore" liberals and you can just ignore us. Do I have it down, right? # posted by Steve @ 2:25 AM
