Why inconsistent?

To establish a real democracy in that region would be huge.
And in turn would reduce the level of hopelessness that many feel under these regimes in the area. Which in turn will reduce people wishing to strap bombs on themselves, or join radical groups.

Obviously this will take many years before we know if this strategy is working. (kinda like the gun registry:) )

Remember the world agreed that Iraq had weapons. Bush should of done more to get a true coalition.

The Chineez are buying oil sands property and interests in Saskatchewan uranium mines. This might be all the excuse the U.S. needs to step in and take control. It might even be deliberate on the U.S. part for allowing this. God knows they usually have an eye to what is going on.
