...the more recent point only emerges after it becomes evident that the extreme of a new {minor recession} {minor advance} has been recorded.. I think I wasn't too clear... If you have an A-B line...and something goes "wrong"...giving you point C...what is the rationale for drawing the new line as A-C instead of B-C? While in both cases you're keeping the very newest point, in the former case you're tossing newer data (B) in favor of older data (A).
