At least now when I say inflation or deflation there is a clear reference to what I mean.

As for stock I agree, they do not belong in a basket. Both those with a "price is everything" approach ignore problems of money supply ramping stocks and not a basket of goods.

I do not know how else to say it: the best way to measure inflation is by expansion and contraction of money and credit.
