...from the posts I am receiving from Nadine, the two things are hopelessly conflated.

In trying to intelligently debate the approach to preventing terror, we are up against two things:

1) The Right's natural tendency toward binary thinking; ie, if one opposes any portion of the government's approach, one is for the enemy and wants Saddam back in power.

2) The deliberate framing of the meme that the Left is not serious about the threats we face. They all are trying this meme out for size, to see if it will stick. Unfortunately, as is also typical, we on the Left seem to often let them go unchallenged on it.

I think the problem is that some of us don't take the Iraqi "enemy" too seriously- at least the enemy as it was before Mr. Bush's police action, because there wasn't much evidence there was anything to take seriously-

About here is where most of us on the other side of the aisle think that you have deeply confused "being oblivious" with "no evidence".
