I usually see those two arguments bundled into one disdainful rhetorical package; while I appreciate your distinction I don't think the proponents of those arguments do. Yes, I understand that the messages are packaged and undifferentiated by most of those who spew them. And I agree that arguing with people who can't differentiate is useless. And I recognize that the proportion of the public with the capacity to differentiated is limited. Funny how they conveniently leave out the lack of majority support for their view among the electorate now. I would caution against concluding, though, that the capacity of a large portion of that majority to differentiate is pretty lacking, too. The "Bush is the devil" rhetorical package is no better.
