Good government is essential to economic well being. Places that lack good government are hellholes. The best schools are indeed private -- and they make up a tiny fraction of the US educational system. Like it or hate it, the economy of the US is predominantly reliant on a massive system of public education. As for public sector research, it is dominated by the vast sums of money we channel into "defense". To dismiss the role of government in a modern economy is to engage in ideological fantasy. Government matters -- and we have a pretty bad one.

"since capitalism relies on the rule of law and clear property rights."

Based on that statement we no longer live in a capitalistic society.
