How are you defining "good government"?

I don't think it can be defined without resorting to some sort of "idea".

My idea of good government is one that our founding fathers envisioned. Where the power of each of the government branches is held in check by the others, where the rule of law is more powerful than any elected official and where individuals are free to "pursue happiness" in the absence of government interference as long as they respect the human as well as the property rights of other individuals. Majority rule with minority rights.

Government compelling me to buy their version of a retirement annuity and old age medical plan is a direct violation of my constitutional right to pursue happiness, my right to decide what is best for myself and my family. The founding fathers are rolling in their graves over things like Social Security and Medicare.

We need good government.

That takes people having the time and motivation to get involved, get informed, and show up at the polls - but oprah still has higher ratings than C-span and last I heard I think around 1/3rd of voters put bush in office.

People will hunt for hours to go find a nice gold coin in a coin shop - they wont turn on c-span for 10 minutes to effect real change though - so what is the solution? They teach or let thier children watch fear factor and never get them involved in c-span - NEVER - my sis has NEVER turned on c-span ONE time in her life! NOT ONCE! If it doesn't come through on fear factor or oprah she doesn't get exposure to any other meme. She doesn't read print media beyond the enquirer and all she gets on the web for is to read a joke site - this is the citizen helping or should I say impeding the future of our society.

>>No society on this planet can do without good government.<<

The office of government is not to confer happiness, but to give men the opportunity to work out happiness for themselves.

The spirit of American Government today has moved very far away from the original mission of its founding fathers.
