I don't think I meant it in a contrarian way... I used the term "crowd" with all respect... -g

Think of a situation when you cannot make up your mind about something, and decide to toss a coin... and be what may. Let's say, you get Tails... and suddenly you feel a clear twinge of regret.... and at this point you realize that it was indeed the other alternative that you - unconsciously - wanted all along.

The same thing happens with the markets. Some event occurs... but players simply go ahead and follow their underlying collective emotion... which that event, in effect, helped to uncover.

Ergo - extraneous events may not generally (really) move the markets... but the way the markets react to them is likely to reveal valuable information.
