When it shows up in the news, and can be cross checked, I'll believe it. You could be anyone, from anywhere- making up anything. I find such anecdotes worthless.

I say again, if this administration had anything, it would show up. When it shows up in channles that are non-anecdotal, I will evaluate it. Thanks all the same.

(FWIW I remember a certain SI member saying a "buddy" saw WMD's in Iraq and we'd be hearing about it soon- that was a few years ago- and still no word on the WMD's)

Saddam was a secularist.. But he ALSO saw himself as the next Saladin, with the mission of creating a new Arab empire under his rule

"Secular" Saddam, during the last years of his rule, declared himself caliph, a religious title, built 50 grandiose mosques, showed himself praying on TV, had a Koran written in his own blood, instructed his security officials to learn about Islam, and generally tried to co-opt the Islamist wave.

Now, I have no doubt it was cynical. But it was there.
