wrong.

the CFO of Google said click fraud could destroy the entire internet advertising model if they couldnt figure out a solution.

this was in early 2005.

it's a serious problem. I can name at least a dozen commercial applications you can buy RIGHT NOW for 50-60 bucks that will guarantee 100 "legit" clicks per day on any ads you want- either on your own website so you get paid real cash by google, or on your competitors ads so their budget gets fucked.

these packages work. they are becoming more and more widespread.

and guess what? they are perfectly LEGAL. there is no law against automated clicking. it is the PERFECT fraud because there is no law that addresses it.

the barriers to fraud are so incredibly low that eventually (very soon) up to 99.999% of all clicks WILL be fraud.

the problem is- Google refuses to hand over their logs and so you have no way of knowing if Google is refunding money for 1 percent of fraudclicks, or 10 percent, or anything at all.

say the end of the quarter is approaching, and they need to make the numbers. all they have to do is cut way back on the refunds for clickfraud and suddenly they make the numbers- by KNOWINGLY CHARGING ADVERTISERS FOR CLICKS THEY *KNOW* are fraudulent.
