Yes, I think we have "intelligent life" here on Earth. And I expect it works the same way on other planets, i.e. full of seething contradictions. Perhaps some planets have already gone to nuclear war over cartoons!

There is an old science fiction novel from the 1930s by Olaf Stapledon that speculates about intelligent life all over the universe. One of the planets is entirely covered by ocean, and inhabited by two intelligent species of whale-like creatures. These beings had evolved to swim on one side, with a large fin on the upper side that they used as a sail to catch the wind. The species in the opposing northern and southern hemispheres had the big sail fin on opposite sides of their bodies, and hated each other with a passion leading to internecine warfare...
